‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 18, episode 5 preview: ‘Unstoppable’ and its Donald Trump ‘inspiration’
Earlier this week, it was first revealed that “Law & Order: SVU” was going to be doing an episode that was inspired in many ways by Donald Trump’s Presidential election and many of its various scandals. This episode in particular has underwent an extensive amount of scrutiny by NBC and the producers, mostly because of the sentiment that everyone involved wants to ensure that this story is done 100% right. We are sure that there are some similarities between this and various Trump headlines, but at the same time we don’t think every element is going to be the same.
You’re going to be seeing this episode air in the near future, and when it does, you better be ready for one of the best guest-starring performances of the entire season courtesy of Gary Cole.
Synopsis – “A politician’s (Emmy and SAG Award-nominated guest star Gary Cole) campaign goes haywire when several women go public with damaging accusations.”
It was announced previously that the “Veep” star was going to be guest-starring in this role, and what will be interesting to see over this episode is how he tackles a character who is incredibly different than anyone else he’s tackled. While Kent may be in the political world over on the HBO show, it was a role based more on laughs than anything else.
Promo – There is not necessarily anything further in this promo that we haven’t discussed already, but it does give you a sense as to how Cole’s character carries himself, and in turn the sort of invincibility that he feels in his mind. When you think you are capable of this much without consequence, that is a very dangerous thing, and it could be tough for the SVU to take on.
