‘Arrow’ season 5: Guillermo del Toro invited to direct
Could one of the greatest working directors out there come over to “Arrow” for an episode? It is something that would be really great, especially if that someone is Guillermo del Toro. “Arrow” has a limited budget, and if you are thinking of directors over the years who are masters of working with a small budget, Guillermo and Robert Rodriguez especially come to mind.
While there is nothing absolutely confirmed regarding getting the “Pacific Rim” director on board, executive producer Marc Guggenheim told ComicBook.com in a new interview that there is absolutely an offer out there:
“I’d be lying if I said I never broached the topic with him … He’s so busy and he is filming right now actually up in Toronto … He’s got a standing invitation.”
One of the reasons that this conversation came up is because Guggenheim and Guillermo worked together on “Trollhunters,” so there is already an inherent connection there. Also, this would not be the first time that the “Arrow”-verse got a big-name director involved. Kevin Smith to date has two episodes of “The Flash” on his resume, and could be directing an episode of “Supergirl” a little later this season. The appeal of getting a big-name director is that you have something a little different from a creative standpoint to discuss, which is a little bit unusual given that most TV directors and writers are unheralded and not known by many fans.
New episodes of “Arrow” sill continue Wednesday night on The CW, and they certainly are working on some epic subjects. For example, we will get a chance to see later this season the 100th episode, which will include a crossover between all four shows in the “Arrow”-verse and the Dominators as a threat the entire universe faces. Beyond that, we assume that some more opportunities to cross over will be coming. (Photo: The CW.)
