NBC’s ‘The Voice’ video: Christian Cuevas, Jason Warrior perform face-melting version of Adele’s ‘Hello’
We have been a noted critic of the Battle Rounds as a form of entertainment on “The Voice” in the past (we much prefer individual performances), but even we can point out a really epic battle when we see one.
This brings us to the “leaked battle” (is it really leaked if NBC releases it purposefully in advance) from Monday night’s new episode, which features Christian Cuevas and Jason Warrior from Team Alicia Keys belting out a powerful, amazingly-good version of Adele’s super-hit “Hello.” We could make all sorts of jokes about the song here in this spot, so let’s just say this: We would GLADLY pick up the phone to this.
This is the sort of battle that makes us wonder why Alicia chose to pair these two up in the first place. Did she think that one of them was going to easily overthrow the other, or did she want someone to go in and steal one of them? It’s tough to say, but she may be regretting her decision to pair them off by the end of this performance. One of them is moving forward with her, and the other is almost certainly moving forward.
This is a REALLY tough decision as to who is better, since both guys bring a ton to the table here and hit almost every single note. We’d say that Jason is a slightly more dynamic performer, but Christian may be slightly better at emotional connection. We think Jason’s slightly more versatile, and we’d probably give him the edge because of that — but we won’t be criticizing Alicia no matter what she decides here. It could come down to who she feels she offers more to moving into the future.
