‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 18 spoilers: More on Anthony Edwards appearance
It was a matter of weeks ago that we first heard that “Law & Order: SVU” was going to have a guest appearance from Anthony Edwards, and just the mere thought of this is in many ways exciting when you think back on TV history. Mariska Hargitay was once a part of “ER” with him, and that gig was a precursor to her being a part of this show as Olivia Benson. Now, eighteen years later, it still remains one of TV’s premier procedurals.
We learned this week that Edwards’ appearance is going to come on Wednesday, October 26, and it will be in an episode that carries with it the title of “Rape Interrupted.” NBC tends to be rather coy when it comes to episode details, and they are really doing that here. What we can tell you is that Edwards is going to be playing on this installment a sergeant who puts Benson in a hard place, one where she has to choose “between loyalty and duty” after his son is accused of rape.
Typically, these sort of police-oriented moral dilemmas are the sort of compelling stories that are the most interesting, largely because you know that Benson is the sort of person who will always fight for justice. The ramifications of fighting for justice for someone with police ties could be huge, in the event that she tries to pursue it further.
This episode specifically has an enormous roster of guest stars: Corey Cott (as Ellis Griffin), Anna Osceola (as Janie Spears), Jenna Stern (as Judge Elana Barth), Joseph Lyle Taylor (as Mickey D’Angelo) and Kelly McAndrew (as Diane Griffin).
