Is “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” on the road to redemption? If the latest season 2 trailer gives us anything, it is hope for a season that is more consistent (and more hilarious) than the one that came before it.
Probably the biggest headline that is present in here is the abundance of various crossovers with the other CW – DC Comics shows, whether it be “Arrow,” “The Flash,” or “Supergirl.” Yet, at the same time we’re not sure that any of the crossover footage is all that notable or the reason why this trailer works. Much of the reason for that could because the crossover, which is featuring the Dominators as its primary villain, only recently began production.
What makes this trailer work for us is ultimately everything else. First and foremost, you’ve got Ray Palmer fighting a dinosaur! Then, you’ve got the return of Jonah Hex and a first look at Stargirl, Vixen, and the Justice Society of America. this is a trailer that crams a lot of it in, and for the most part it seems like the focal point here is fun.
Through most of the first season, the largest issues were as follows:
1. The story was disconnected – We’d go through three or four episodes that were supposedly all about the quest to stop Vandal Savage, and by the end of it, we never quite felt like we really went anywhere.
2. Too many romantic subplots – Most notably, the Ray Palmer / Hawkgirl romance was devoid of any real chemistry, and the only takeaway from it was that Brandon Routh’s character cannot find love no matter how hard he tries these days.
We’ve got some other details on the season ahead over at the link here; for now, we’re at least feeling optimistic that the show is sorting itself out, and will be the time-travel party that we and so many others were hoping for when we saw the launch trailer well over a year ago. (Photo: The CW.)
