In terms of Netflix new releases, the past few weeks have certainly been eventful! Two weeks ago, we saw the premiere of “Longmire” season 5, and following that we had the much-anticipated launch of “Luke Cage” last week.
Maybe it’s thanks to all of the recent releases that the premiere of “The Ranch” season 1B is a little under-the-radar; it’s certainly unusual, given that we find this to be a unique and supremely-underrated sitcom, and it also has the captivating presence of Ashton Kutcher in a lead role. Ultimately, though, nothing matters too much given that it is consistency that you often crave most from a show, and this one certainly has it. As you get through the final episodes of season 1, rest assured that the show will be coming back at some point in 2017 with new episodes. As for what they’ll be about, that is a little too early to tell.
What we have realized is that sitcoms on Netflix are a worthy experiment, and work out far better than we even first imagined that they would. What “The Ranch” has done so effectively is combine sitcom traditions such as multiple cameras and an audience with the content of something more akin to an HBO comedy; characters say precisely what is on their mind, and nobody’s altogether afraid of a censor. That absolutely adds to some of the authenticity. We certainly have seen with “Fuller House,” reportedly one of the biggest hits on Netflix, that sitcoms on this medium can find tremendous success.
Once there is some further news on “The Ranch” and its future, rest assured we’ll have some more news then. For now, be sure to enjoy diving into the season!
