‘The Flash’ season 3, episode 1 reaction: Candice Patton on Iris – Joe rift

FlashTonight, “The Flash” gave us “Flashpoint,” and kicked off what will hopefully be a domino effect that is going to fall over the course of the remainder of the season. While there are going to be many storylines that stay the same as what they were like before Barry went back in time in hopes of changing things, there are some key differences. One of the biggest ones that is already apparent is that Iris and Joe still have some sort of a rift between them.

In speaking about what playing this rift will be like, and hopefully finding a solution to it at some point, Candice Patton said the following to TV Guide:

“What’s hard about that is that we’ve watched two seasons of the West family being such a tight-knit unit … Nothing really penetrates that family bond, but because of ‘Flashpoint’ and Barry’s return to the original timeline, things are different. Iris and her father don’t have a great relationship. That’s something that Barry is going to struggle with and obviously he’ll want to fix it in whatever way he can.”

The entire West family will probably need to be reunited in order to adequately impact what is next. Specifically, we’re talking here about the presence of a mystery character named Dr. Alchemy who is going to start to inflict problems across Central City in the weeks to come. Given that we already had a tease of him in the premiere, it’s clearly someone the show wants you thinking about. Also, it’s someone who already creeps us out in a way.
