Is ‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 4, episode 3 new tonight? More in the new director

SHIELD -Before we get too much further into this particular “Agents of SHIELD” article, let’s go ahead and get the bad news out of the way: There is no new episode of the show airing on ABC tonight. The reasoning for it is the same as what we labeled it to the be last week: The Vice-Presidential Debate. With that coming on the air across all of the major broadcast networks, there’s no real room to broadcast anything else.

When the show does return next week, we’re going to have a chance to learn more potentially about Ghost Rider and the new Director, and the latter is particularly compelling now that we know a little bit more about precisely who it is. According to Entertainment Weekly, the character is a powered-up version of Jeffrey Mace, a comic character who was known as the Patriot, and at one point even became an incarnation of Captain America. In making him an Inhuman on the show and also the leader of SHIELD, clearly the writers are giving us a different take. He’s a character who can bridge the gap between Inhumans and everyday people, even though this person will likely have ideological differences here and there with some of the other characters we’ve come to know in love.

In talking about this new addition further, here is what executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen told the website:

“We are excited to have the Patriot joining our show, a character who has existed in Marvel Comics for 70 years … Jason O’Mara brings a perfect balance of charm, mystery, heroism  and humor.”

Hopefully, we’ll have many an opportunity to get to know him better over the coming weeks.
