‘Criminal Minds’ season 12, episode 2 video: The latest briefing

Wednesday night’s new episode of “Criminal Minds” is going to be a powerful one to watch, mostly because we’re losing Thomas Gibson as a cast member — and it’s happening in the midst of what could be an especially emotional episode for JJ, based on the promotional material that is out there.

Unfortunately, the sneak peek below does not exactly give away a bevy of information regarding what we can expect to see from this story, at least other than introducing us to a particularly horrific case of an abductor who eventually burns his victims. There are connections between this UnSub and a past case, and trying to figure out some of the changes and the connections could be key to figuring all of this out. We don’t have a chance to see more than this, but it is nice to see Luke Alvez on the plan with some of his fellow new team members. His introduction and integration to the team is something worth watching in the weeks to come.

One other challenge will be how the show tries to write around the exit of Gibson. Remember for a minute here that he was fired before the start of episode 3, and we therefore have a tough time thinking that they were able to go back and shoot a lot of new footage featuring the character after the fact. We’ll have our eyes peeled for anything interesting that takes place here, and we’ll of course have a review online not too long after it airs.
