‘Sherlock’ season 4 could be the end, says Benedict Cumberbatch
While we’re not saying for certain that “Sherlock” season 4 is going to be the last for the BBC One hit, at the same time the show’s cast and crew do seem to be continuing to caution that the odds are very much there that there may not be any more story coming up down the road for the series.
Speaking in a new interview in the British version of GQ, star Benedict Cumberbatch had the following to say on the possibility that there may be no more adventures for Sherlock
“It might be the end of an era. It feels like the end of an era, to be honest. It goes to a place where it will be pretty hard to follow on immediately. We never say never on the show. I’d love to revisit it, I’d love to keep revisiting it, I stand by that, but in the immediate future we all have things that we want to crack on with and we’ve made something very complete as it is, so I think we’ll just wait and see. The idea of never playing him again is really galling.”
We do get the sense that Cumberbatch loves the part; there’s no other reason for him to stay in television, given that he can command far larger salaries in feature films than working on a show airing on a publicly-funded network. Yet, he’s extremely in-demand, and there are countless other projects that he can pursue. Our feeling is that if you give the franchise a solid three or four years, you never know what could happen.
Personally, we’re very much pleased in the first place that we have received as much of this show as we have.
