‘Elementary’ season 5, episode 1 video: Jonny Lee Miller, cast discuss stories ahead
With the premiere episode of “Elementary” coming to CBS on Sunday night, isn’t now the best time to start to get inside the heads of some of the actors? If anyone’s going to be able to give us the inside scoop on what’s coming up this season, it’s the cast.
In the video below, you can see Jonny Lee Miller, Lucy Liu, and other cast members sit down to discuss some of the stories that are coming up, and in turn some of the challenges that await the characters of Holmes and Watson as we push further into this season. After all, there are some pretty big ones!
For one, we’ve got a new cast member in Nelsan Ellis (“True Blood”) who is going to prove to be an interesting cog in the “Elementary” equation as Shinwell Johnson. He explains a little bit of the character’s backstory himself: He’s an ex-convict trying to get his life back together outside of prison, and he has a history with Joan given that she did her part to help save his life following time he spent in prison.
So where could some problems arise? Much of it has to do with whether or not Shinwell can stay on the straight and narrow, and on a certain level we could see Sherlock have a little bit of concern regarding whether or not this is a person Joan is trying to save just to feel like she’s having a greater impact on the world. He’s a man of routine in many ways, and we certainly do not imagine him appreciating someone who could be seen as a distraction to the cause or bringing distress in Joan’s direction. Problems for Joan always mean problems for Sherlock, even if he doesn’t have anything to do with the situation.
