‘Hawaii Five-0’ season 7 spoilers: Prepare for emotion in episode #150
For those of you who love milestones, rest assured you’re going to get a plenty-good one when “Hawaii Five-0” airs its 150th episode a little bit later this season. We know that Michelle Borth and Christine Lahti are both returning, and with that in mind, it does look as though this is going to be a really great chance to explore the Steve McGarrett character and his history.
Of course, it’s fair to say that executive producer Peter Lenkov feels the same. Speaking per Entertainment Weekly, you can see the showrunner make it clear what some of the goals are with this episode, especially when it comes to getting these guest characters involved:
“We really dig deep into the characters … You’re going to see McGarrett and his mom’s relationship when he was a little boy. Despite the fact that everybody thinks that this is the world’s worst mom, she was a good mother, and he has to be reminded of that — actually that’s one of the things that Catherine reminds him. ‘At some point before she was the person who abandoned you, she was your mother.’ That’s going to make him think back and we’re going to see moments of McGarrett and his mother when he was little, and the fact that she was this caring, mother next door, she was somebody who adored her son, would never give up her family. You’re going to see the things that led up to that.”
It’s a little too early to say one way or another if this episode will change anyone’s way of thinking about these characters, but we at least know this: It should prove itself to be a great opportunity to remind us that even in fiction, relationships are complicated and are often very hard to read.
