Super Bowl LI Halftime Show: Lady Gaga confirms participation!
Great news for everyone who has been eagerly awaiting some news regarding the chance to see Lady Gaga perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show: It’s now official. The “Perfect Illusion” singer will be headlining the February 5 event, which is the most-watched television program of the entire year. Her performance comes after Coldplay headlined the show last year, with special appearances from Beyonce and Bruno Mars in there along the way. History will probably remember this show more for Beyonce’s performance and some of the reaction that it generated.
Is this the right choice? We do think that the singer, who is currently a key player over on “American Horror Story: Roanoke,” has the catalog of songs that are good enough to dominate on the show. She’s got dance-worthy songs like “Born This Way,” “Poker Face,” and “Just Dance” to go along with more emotional songs like “The Edge of Glory.” She also has a new album coming out a little bit later this year, so that could give her an even larger library to perform from.
Gaga is far from the first pop megastar to perform recently at the Halftime Show, as Katy Perry had a memorable set that recently included an awkward-dancing shark. We do know that Gaga does have a knack for stirring up controversy with her performances, but we don’t think she’ll do too much of that here given that this is a great chance to expose some new music to fans, which also creating a fun, party atmosphere. We’re not a music critic by any means, but our favorite Gaga music remains the earlier stuff where fun really was the emphasis.
