TV Quick Hits: ‘High Maintenance’ renewed by HBO; Jennifer Lopez’s new judging gig; touching ‘SVU’ video
We’ve got a wide array of different stories to profile in this latest edition of TV Quick Hits, but let’s kick things off with a little news on a show that’s on the way back!
“High Maintenance” renewed by HBO – The premium cable network really didn’t waste a whole lot of time on this one. The network has confirmed today that they are bringing back the pot-oriented comedy for another season just two episodes into its six-episode first run. Given that HBO does like to show some loyalty to their original properties, this really shouldn’t be a shock it’s coming back; we’re just pleasantly surprised that the news was announced so early on.
As for some other news from the day…
Jennifer Lopez is a judge once more – We knew that she was going to executive-produce NBC’s upcoming series “World of Dance,” based on the preexisting competition. Now, it has also been confirmed that the former “American Idol” judge / pop star will be on the show’s judging panel — and will also serve as an executive producer. In a statement, she had the following to say:
“I identify with the struggles, passion, discipline, competition and exhilaration of dance … I am excited that with this show we can skyrocket a dancer’s career and help guide them to success.”
“World of Dance” will run for ten episodes, with the winner receiving both a cash prize and the title of “best in the world.” We’d probably be more excited if there weren’t so many other dance shows out there already.
“SVU” fan has a dream come true – This is just a sweet video that should make many of you out there smile — Hoda Kotb of “The Today Show” teamed with “Law & Order: SVU” for a segment in which they gave a longtime fan and cancer survivor a brief role on an upcoming episode. It’s super-sweet, especially seeing how the cast ended up treating her.
