‘Power’ season 3 finale review: Ghost feels the biggest betrayal
We figured going into the season 3 finale for “Power” that it could be a bloodbath, and it was … but not in the way you expected. Instead, we’d assess that there was just as much emotional damage throughout the hour as there was physical pain.
In surveying the night’s biggest casualty, we’d say it was Greg Knox, who was gunned down by none other than double agent Mike Sandoval. He’s been the guy who has pulled the wool over the eyes of the fellow Special Agents of the past year, and he was able to orchestrate a situation that was even more perfect than he imagined. He knew that Greg was extremely suspicious of James St. Patrick and Angela over what happened with Lobos, and figured that not long after Greg’s death we would see someone else taking the fall for it.
Sandoval was right, as the episode ended with Jamie, who was right on the cusp of getting Truth all around the world, being arrested at Angela’s hand. In her mind, he was the only one who could have killed Greg with any sort of reasonable motive. It’s one of the biggest betrayals of the night for Ghost — at least of the ones he knew of. He was not aware that Tommy still was not entirely on his side, and is very much still in the game after the death of Milan. That was a move that benefited both him and Ghost, and for rather different reasons.
While all of this was sensational, we don’t want to overlook what happened with Tasha and Tariq, who seems firmly entrenched now in Kanan’s plan. We were somewhat surprised that there wasn’t a showdown between him and Ghost in the finale, but at the same exact time, we much prefer not rushing a storyline when there is so much else going on.
From the acting to the directing to even the music of the closing scene Sunday night, it feels pretty darn clear that this was as good of a “Power” finale as you are going to get. There were many great moments over the course of the hour, but some devastating cliffhangers as well. Grade: A.

An interesting end to the Season. I was also right in my prediction that Sandaval would kill Knox. It seemed inevitable – he had reached the point of unbearable. But, I was somehow expecting a more spectacular ending for Knox. I too, was a little frustrated by the scene when Knox told Sandaval ‘I’ll have to take you in…put down the gun…’ Really? Why would he go quietly? He’s been working for the Cartel – he’s a Federal gangster!
I was wrong about Tariq getting killed this season. But, at some point that spoilt, rebellious, ungrateful brat needs to learn a tough lesson beyond losing his cell phone privileges! I believe we will really see the gangster side of Tasha in the next Season when she locks horns with Juke box and Kenan to save her son. If he can be saved. Either way, she will be a force to reckon with for the kidnappers. And, just maybe, she will start to see why Ghost was right about getting out of that life.
I’ve been very disappointed with Ghost decision-making and his overall role in this Season. Hopefully, while he’s in jail, trying to clear his name, he will get back to being the mastermind that we so enjoyed in past seasons. As for Ghost and Angie? Writers: Please bring back their love affair. Please! The chemistry between Jamie and Angie made the story come alive – it felt real. It was the sliver-lining in the story. Love conquers all!
Can’t wait for Season 4. Just wondering why the heck we have to wait so long?? Cant’ they speed up the production process – especially for a show that is so highly rated?
