‘Daredevil’ season 3: Vincent D’Onofrio coy on Fisk’s future

If you love Marvel’s version of “Daredevil,” odds are that you also love the show’s presentation of Wilson Fisk a.k.a. Kingpin as played by Vincent D’Onofrio. While we understand that speaking in superlatives can be dangerous, we consider this to be one of the greatest portrayals of a comic-book villain we’ve see on TV. Yet, the story dictated that he was sidelined for much of “Daredevil” season 2, and the future beyond that is still relatively unclear.

Yet, there is one thing we do know for sure: The interest is absolutely there for D’Onofrio in continuing to be involved in the story, at least based on what the actor said himself to IGN recently — though he couldn’t say much in terms of whether or not it will actually happen:

“I can’t say a word. I can say that Charlie [Cox] and I love working together. And I know that because of Jeph’s love of the character and the Daredevil series, that that’s probably not finished, that whole deal when it comes to Fisk. But when and where and how is not something I can talk about. I know that there’s … anybody that knows the whole Daredevil and Punisher series, they know that there’s a lot of Fisk in there. I love it because it shoots from New York and I can be home with my family and play this incredible character. For me, that first season that Steven DeKnight wrote is just so spectacular. The few episodes that I did in the second season .. was it one or two? I can’t remember. But those were really well-written also. As long as the writing stays as good as that, then I’m going to be there whenever they ask me to.”

Maybe it will be in “The Defenders,” maybe it’ll be in “The Punisher,” or maybe it will be “Daredevil” season 3. Ultimately, it’s hard to chart the future of the character. Yet, the good news is that we’re confident that one point or another, Fisk will rear his head once more.
