TV Quick Hits: Another ‘Simpsons’ – FXX marathon; ‘Nashville’ season 5 casting; ‘Magnum PI’ sequel to ABC

CBS LogoToday in our TV Quick Hits, we’re starting things off with a world record!

“The Simpsons” set for another marathon – Back when FXX was still trying to find its footing, one of its biggest selling points was having the entire library of “The Simpsons” available for viewers or cable subscribers online. They aired every episode in succession, and the marathon was the longest in television history.

Now, we’re doing it all over again. “Every. Simpsons. Ever. (Part 2!)” will begin at noon on Thanksgiving Day (November 24), and it will conclude at midnight on December 6. (All times Eastern.) This marathon will span an incredible 600 episodes and also run for a whopping 300 hours. Whoever watches even a good third of this deserves some sort of medal.

As for some other news of the day…

“Nashville” casting scoop – There may not be too much known about this particular casting right now, but Deadline reports that Murray Bartlett has been cast as Jakob Fine, a men’s fashion designer who has a lot of charisma and is very good at precisely what he does. (“Jakob Fine” also seems like the perfect name if your goal is to go into this sort of profession.)

“Magnum P.I.” sequel coming to ABC – Just in case there weren’t enough crime TV remakes out there, we’ve now got this. Deadline also reports that the network is teaming up with executive producers John Rogers (“Leverage”) and Eva Longoria for “Magnum,” a revival of the franchise that will star this time Thomas Magnum’s daughter Lily “Tommy” Magnum, who upon returning to Hawaii decides to pick up where her father left off.

Given that Tom Selleck is a regular over on “Blue Bloods,” we’re not sure if he fits into this project. Still, it’ll be interesting to see if this project sticks; we do believe that with “Castle” gone ABC is looking for its next great crime-solving series.
