‘Outlander’ season 3 spoilers: John Bell, Wil Johnson cast in key roles

Outlander -Now that filming is underway on the third season of “Outlander” for Starz, we’re very much pleased to know a little more about the lineup of notable names who will be taking part.

With that, we have for you today scoop on a pair of new additions! Read on for more…

John Bell – Per Deadline, the actor (who played Bain in two of the recent “Hobbit” movies) will be taking on the part of Young Ian. He is a “gangly” young Scottish man who has quite a bit in common with Jamie Fraser, at least in that they’re both adventurous and often out to prove themselves. Ian’s not altogether ready for battle just yet, but we will see an evolution for him over the course of the season.

Wil Johnson – The site also reports that the “Waking the Dead” actor, a rather familiar face within the world of British drama, is going to be playing the part of Joe Abernathy. He is a medical student like Claire, and the two form a kinship and a longtime bond due to their fish-out-of-water status in a world that is often dominated by white males.

For fans of the Diana Gabaldon book series, we assume that there are many reasons to be excited about this news for now; as for everyone else, the reasons will probably become all the more apparent over the course of the coming weeks and months. The new season will more than likely not air on Starz until the spring, but we’ll have further updates along the way.
