Emmys 2016: Full In Memorial includes Garry Marshall, Doris Roberts, Gene Wilder, more

Emmys -We wrote earlier about a small tribute that the Emmys did to the late Garry Shandling earlier in the show, but when it comes to the full In Memoriam segment that they aired a little bit later in the broadcast, they chose to honor a variety of people who made a huge impact on the industry.

In particular, Garry Marshall got a great tribute from the wonderful Henry Winkler, who made it clear that he owed almost everything in his career to the man who helped to get “Happy Days” on the air so many years ago. From there, we went on to a variety of other names from different walks of life.

Some of the names that made an impact on us in the montage were Doris Roberts (“Everybody Loves Raymond”), the wonderful Alan Rickman, Gene Wilder, Morley Safer, and Wayne Rogers. This was largely a reminder more so than everything of the hard year that it has been when it comes to entertainment, with so many heroes going off into the distance.

We have a feeling that there will be some who wonder why people like Prince, David Bowie, and Muhammad Ali were included, given that their impact was in other industries more so than television. Yet, at the same time they inspired so many people, and they did have appearances in the medium over time. We don’t think that there is any requirement for how this sort of thing should be sorted out, even if there were some who were snubbed.

If you do want to get some other news when it comes to the Emmys, be sure to head over here right now. We’ll continue to keep the memory of many of these great actors, performers, crew members, and more in mind for the coming weeks. (Photo: Emmys.)
