‘Power’ season 3, episode 9 reaction: Show boss on Ruiz shocker, Tommy’s move
Tonight’s episode of “Power” on Starz proved to be fire and then some, as there were a variety of big stories and shocking moves that happened over the course of it.
In starting off that list of shockers, we’ve gotta talk about Tommy’s big decision to seemingly chose Milan, the protection of himself, over his longtime ally Ghost. He went from being willing to kill for him to being willing to actually kill him, and that is a notable evolution and it’s taken us quite a long time to get to that point.
In describing this process, executive producer Courtney Kemp had the following to say in a video that played after the episode:
“We know that Ghost is always working for his own agenda, and we’re used to that; but, we’re now seeing that Tommy might be working for his agenda, and as an audience we become uncomfortable … The Ruiz death is really all encapsulated by what Tommy says — ‘I didn’t do this to you, Ghost did.’ For us in the writers room, we really felt that Ruiz was a casualty of Ghost not being honest with people. Does Ghost deserve Tommy’s allegiance? Has he done for others as much as [what has been done for him]? Ghost loses his ally because of his inability to trust and make bridges.”
Meanwhile, Kemp added the following on one of the other big moves of the episode, Tasha’s decision to sleep with Ghost that leads to her getting information from him, and then passing that along to Tommy:
“Obviously one of the biggest moments of the episode was Ghost and Tasha sleeping together. They have a moment where they see each other. Tasha’s very conflicted, he’s kind of conflicted too, but he doesn’t have a loyalty to Angela in terms of love and sex right now because they’re broken up. So, what’s the harm in trying to find a little bit of comfort when you’re running?”
Overall, tonight’s episode sets the stage for the finale next week in a rather enormous way, and you can head over here to see both a preview for that and a review for tonight’s new episode!
