Okay, Jimmy Fallon messed up Donald Trump’s hair — why should we care?
Last night, “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” paid host to Presidential candidate Donald Trump, and somehow what we saw as a result of this was a minute-long clip that sent much of the internet into an uproar … over hair.
Specifically, we’re talking about Fallon’s goofy attempt to mess up Trump’s hair, a move that he made just so that they could do something fun in the event the “Apprentice” star gets elected President later this year and no longer has time for such silly matters. Jimmy goes to town, and then tries to mess up his own hair to make Donald feel better.
Much of the uproar surrounding this video has to do by and large to the sentiment that Fallon decided to go for silliness over substance in this interview, not asking any tough questions or really challenge Trump in any way. Can you imagine Johnny Carson or David Letterman handling Trump in a relatively similar fashion? We can’t.
Ultimately, though, this entire clip may be the latest poster child for how we as the internet often care far too mcuh about really simple things. Regardless of your political affiliation, think about this for a moment: Is anyone out there really going to decide their vote for President based on what Jimmy Fallon did to Donald Trump’s hair? Did it really “humanize” him? It was a silly moment on a late-night show with a man famous for giving softball interviews and choosing silly games over insightful conversations.
What NBC probably wanted the most of this is ratings and/or attention, and with that, congrats, NBC: We’re pretty darn sure now that you got precisely what you wanted.
