‘Suits’ season 6, episode 10 (summer finale) review: Jessica, Louis, and shattering futures
On Wednesday night’s summer finale of “Suits,” we saw the heart of one Jessica Pearson, and she chose to make some of her biggest decisions of her entire career.
Through the (brilliant) use of flashbacks, we learned more about why she became a lawyer in the first place, and how helping people have another shot at life was high on the list. For much of the series, there have been distractions that kept her from that goal. This is where getting the Leonard Bailey case factors back into play. This was an opportunity for her to be a part of something greater, and for her to make a real difference. That’s why she was willing to risk the entire future of the firm to stay there and ensure that he was exonerated — which he was, with the help of a shrewd plan from Rachel and Mike.
Unfortunately, this seems to be the end of Jessica … at least as a name partner for the series. To be perfectly candid, we wondered about this from the moment Gina Torres booked a pilot earlier this year; it felt like her future could be in doubt, and maybe this is the beginning of the end for her on the show (that seems to be especially the case given her offer to go to Chicago with Jeff Malone). If that’s the case, what a hell of a way to go out. To help ensure that she has her freedom and Louis / Harvey moved forward, she stepped down.
This wasn’t the only realization of the night: After learning that Tara was pregnant with her ex’s baby, Louis made a huge commitment to her so that she realized he wasn’t going to change his mind: He proposed!
Ultimately, Mike Ross is still pondering his future coming out of this, and in the end we do feel incredibly satisfied with the end of the summer run. It brought us most importantly an emotional punch, and there are several scenes in here we’ll remember for some time. Grade: A-.
