‘The Good Wife’ spin-off premiere coming in February; ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ pushed to May 2017

Some news has come out this afternoon about the upcoming projects for CBS All Access, and for the most part we’d say that all of this sounds like a little bit of a mixed bag.

Let’s start with the bad news, given that this is the part that could prove to be the most distressing: “Star Trek: Discovery,” the latest chapter in the long-running series, has been pushed until May 2017. The premiere will still air on CBS in the spring before the remainder of the series comes to the All Access platform. Here is what executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Bryan Fuller had to say in a statement:

“Bringing Star Trek back to television carries a responsibility and mission: to connect fans and newcomers alike to the series that has fed our imaginations since childhood. We aim to dream big and deliver, and that means making sure the demands of physical and post-production for a show that takes place entirely in space, and the need to meet an air date, don’t result in compromised quality. Before heading into production, we evaluated these realities with our partners at CBS and they agreed:Star Trek deserves the very best, and these extra few months will help us achieve a vision we can all be proud of.”

Also worth noting is that the spin-off for “The Good Wife” starring Christine Baranski (Diane) and Cush Jumbo (Lucca) will be premiering in February, far earlier than originally expected. Also, original series creators Robert and Michelle King have decided to formally take the reigns as showrunners, which probably in turn means that “BrainDead” is going the way of the dodo — not that this is a surprise given its ratings to date.
