Netflix ending ‘Bloodline’ after season 3
Apparently, the story of “Bloodline” is going to be bleeding out a little bit earlier than expected.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix recently informed studio Sony that there would only be a 10-episode third season as opposed to 13, and that this will be the final chapter for the show. This move comes at a tremendous shock, given that most indications were that the show was popular, it’s an awards contender, and that there were no previous plans for the series to end its run after season 3.
One interesting component from this from a cost perspective could be that the first two seasons of “Bloodline” were able to take advantage of a tax incentive program in Florida for productions, one that is now ending. Therefore, presumably it would cost more money to make future seasons in the Sunshine State, and given the structure of this show we’re not quite sure if you can make it without having it set where it is. What makes this so rare is that Netflix really hasn’t ended too many of their original shows; “Hemlock Grove” and “Lilyhammer” are to date two of their more high-profile shows to say farewell.
We’ll keep an eye on this situation, mostly because we do wonder if the creators want to make more if they will try to take the show to another place like an Amazon or even an HBO or Showtime. We know that creatively, there could be a whole lot more to explore here.
