‘Beauty and the Beast’ season 4, episode 12 review: The true beast all along

The latest -

In just one episode’s time “Beauty and the Beast” will be over on The CW, but for the sake of Thursday night’s new episode, they decided to introduce one new twist into the mix in particular: The notion that almost everything we’ve been expecting for the entirety of the season is not as it appeared on the surface.

Specifically, we’re talking here about the whole concept of another beast being out there. This is the narrative that Braxton had thrown out into the universe before his “death,” but as it turned out, the character is not actually dead at all. He revealed himself to be alive in this episode, and we got a sense that there was an elaborate plan this whole time to eradicate Vincent. It’s a conspiracy folks! While we wish we had gotten to this point so much earlier in the season, at least this is setting up to be a different end this season than the past two.

Also in this episode, Braxton shot Heather but she managed to make it through without any life-threatening problems. Cat and Vincent are promising to bring the fight to him and destroy everyone related to the beast program one way or another, and we have to think that they’ve got a good shot at being successful.

As a whole, season 4 of “Beauty and the Beast” has been an uneven exercise, mostly because we almost would have preferred a more procedural approach if you were going to wait this long to give us the real reveal as to what is going on. Yet, at the same time Jay Ryan and Kristin Kreuk have presented us with some of their best work this season, and we do think we are being set up for the finale fans have wanted with some sort of hope for the future. It’s a complicated mixture of emotions we’re feeling right now with the show ending, but at least some of the pieces are in place. Grade: B.
