‘The Last Ship’ renewed through season 5 ahead of season 3 finale
The season 3 finale of “The Last Ship” is coming to TNT on Sunday night, and before we roll around to that apparently the folks over at TNT want you to feel as secure in the show’s future as possible.
Today, the network renewed the show (which had already been commissioned for a fourth season) through the end of season 5, which basically means that you’ll be seeing Tom Chandler and company on the air for at least two more years. This move comes after season 3, despite being down by around 30% in the 18-49 demo from season 2 (at least in live+same day viewership), has remained steady for much of the past several weeks.
In a statement, the network’s executive vice president of original programming Sarah Aubrey had the following to say:
“The Last Ship has taken viewers on an exciting ride through three truly thrilling seasons … We look forward to watching the cast and production team ratchet up the drama, action and suspense even more over the next two seasons, through summer 2018.”
Even if it turns out that season 5 is the final one for the show on the air, we’ll at least be grateful that we got to see the journey last for this long — though to be clear, we’re not saying that season 5 will be the show’s last. That’s a decision that will likely come at some point in the future. The good news about the structure of this news is that if the network decides to go in this direction, they will have the time to make the announcement and then prepare the writers and the cast for it.

My first thing is….why? I had no desire to watch Season 3 without Dr. Scott, I sure as heck do not care to see two more seasons of explosions and feelings of – haven’t we been here before? No thanks.
