Is ‘The Night Shift’ new tonight on NBC? Our continued season 4 hopes
It has certainly been nice to get a flurry of new episodes of “The Night Shift” the past couple of weeks followings its Olympics-related hiatus. Unfortunately, we’re now staring in the face the great unknown, and we have no idea as of yet when or if the series could return. There is no new episode tonight, and the next time we could see the show is for a potential fourth season.
Over the course of the past week, though, we will say that we have lost almost no confidence in our opinion that the series will be back for another batch of episodes next year. It spent this summer as the most-watched scripted series on broadcast TV, and to go along with that, it can also claim that it has stayed fairly steady at a time in which the majority of the competition elsewhere in terms of scripted programming has declined.
Of course, we could continue to go on and on about how the show is doing this in spite of frequent hiatuses and a relative lack of promotion by NBC, but we figure that if you’re reading this article, we probably don’t have to convince you that this is a series worthy of getting another season on the air.
We spoke last week with showrunners Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, and they told us that the end of October was when the network would need to make an official decision on the show’s future. Hopefully, we’ll have a chance to find something out long before then. Trust us: We’ll have the news here for you as soon as we hear something.
