‘Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X’ to contain first-ever evacuation of castaways due to weather
We know that “Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X” will probably continue a variety of different twists and turns due to the game, and apparently, it’s also going to contain a big one due to the weather that has never been done before.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the arrival of Tropical Cyclone Zena in Fiji on April 6 — just day 2 of the game — was enough for Jeff Probst and the producers to realize that the resulting condition was worse than anything they’ve seen over the years. As a result of that, the players were evacuated briefly before getting a chance to return to the game.
Here’s what Probst had to say on the matter to the aforementioned publication’s Dalton Ross:
“For 32 seasons of Survivor, we’ve been very lucky to have escaped some severe storms … This time, the storm caught us. It was only day two and in a matter of hours, a nice afternoon turned into a severe rainstorm that kept growing in intensity by the hour. We were monitoring the weather minute by minute back at base camp. When the national Fijian weather service upgraded it to a cyclone, we had to evacuate both tribes from their beaches and get them to safety. We have never had to evacuate tribes in 32 seasons of Survivor.”
We do not believe this will have much in the way of a substantial impact on the overall course of the game, mostly because what we’re talking about here is something done out of necessity, and something that is so early in the season that it really should not change much. Still, we figure it could make for interesting television and one of those rare behind-the-camera moments where you are reminded that while these players are out in the wilderness, there are people and resources around in the event things get scary. This is similar in some ways to what we saw with Caleb’s medical evacuation last season.
