‘Chicago Fire’ producer, One Direction alum Zayn Malik team up for boy-band NBC project
While it may be a little early to tell whether or not we are going to see an NBC series largely inspired by boy-bands like One Direction, the new reports that are out there are certainly intriguing. Also, we’d worry if we were a boy-band member about getting some of our secrets exposed.
Sources confirm that Malik is teaming up with “Law & Order” and “Chicago Fire” super-producer Dick Wolf on “Boys,” a series also executive-produced by Sherri Cooper Landsman and Jennifer Levin that would chronicle the rise to stardom of a talented vocal group, likely one similar to One Direction to many ways.
While we know there have been some shows out there about stardom before, whether it be an “Empire” or a “Smash,” this is a great idea on paper. There is so much explored drama here, in between forming a group of guys who don’t really know each other and then also them having to deal with almost overnight celebrity. There are going to be thousands of people ready for them to fail, and while there will be plenty of adoring fans, with that comes impossible expectations to be perfect and have unlimited time to cater to many of them.
It’s not clear just how involved in the day-to-day operations of the series Malik will be (provided that it is even picked up), but having him is an invaluable resource mostly because of everything that he knows about the industry and this incredibly unique experience. He’s still a star in his own right, but he has a little more distance and perspective now than he perhaps once did.
