‘Narcos’ renewed for seasons 3, 4 on Netflix

Narcos -

Even though “Narcos” season 2 may be serving as an end to one story, it is merely the beginning to a larger chronicle of an infamous drug trade.

With that in mind, we were hardly surprised this morning by the announcement that Netflix has officially renewed the drama through season 4, which means that there are at least two more years’ worth of episodes coming for the acclaimed drama. With that, we imagine a flurry of new characters will be announced / cast.

Are we surprised to see the renewal coming so soon, especially given that season 2 premiered mere days ago? Yes and no. We understand the season 3 renewal as a vote of confidence for the show to keep moving forward even if you are moving away somewhat from the Pablo Escobar story. In giving the show two more seasons, you are making a huge statement of faith. Then again, Netflix can probably afford this given their insanely robust lineup of programming and high number of subscribers. While they don’t release traditional viewing figures, some analysts have suggested that their shows are far more popular than many on TV.

To go along with the renewal announcement, Netflix also created a brief video announcing that season 3 is on the way in 2017. This doesn’t exactly offer up any insight, but it does serve as nice video proof for anyone out there doubting that the show will be back. (Of course, we’re sure that whoever came up with the phrase “the blow must go on” is more than likely off giving themselves a tremendous pat on the back right about now.)
