‘Fear the Walking Dead’ season 2, episode 10 review: Friends and follies
The second season of “Fear the Walking Dead” to date is one where our main characters have done their best to try to answer one question more so than any other: Who can they trust? Who in this world is someone who is going to react to the circumstances around them in the right way?
For the character of Chris, it has felt certainly clear that he has been yearning for something for quite some time since before Celia’s compound was gone. We’re just not sure that Brandon and his minions were the right sort of people for him to run into. These are people who we haven’t run into much on either this show or the flagship one, since they seem to almost enjoy being out here with the people they call “wasted.” They feel it suits their roguish ways, and they’re fine to have Chris be a part of their crew.
In going back to the hotel a.k.a. the other focal point of the episode, things were a little nutty since we had a situation where Alicia, with the help of a former employee named Elena, worked together in order to further ensure their safety. The problem is that the wedding party who she had locked in the hotel remains rather displeased with her, and there’s not a whole lot of evidence that they’re willing to work with Elena or her nephew Hector. With the mother-in-law holding the keys to the hotel, she therefore has most of the control of the hotel.
The good news for Alicia and company? They ran into Madison and Strand at the end of the episode. The bad news? We don’t really think we’re covering new ground here.
In the end, the struggle for “Fear the Walking Dead” is making the characters so amazing that we’re okay treading on familiar territory. While entertaining at moments, we don’t think we’re there yet through the entirety of the second half of this season.
