‘Supergirl’ season 2: Tyler Hoechlin landed Superman role after short meeting

Superman -Earlier this summer, Tyler Hoechlin was announced to be the new Superman on the upcoming second season of “Supergirl,” and as it turns out, the “Teen Wolf” alum landed the role as a result of some less-than-ordinary circumstances.

Speaking in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hoechlin made it very clear precisely how he ended up getting the part after a short meeting earlier this summer — one that surprised even him:

“Honestly, it was the strangest thing — there wasn’t an audition … I had a great meeting with [executive producers] Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg [in June]. I had been told that the meeting would have something to do with Supergirl, but nothing really specific. Halfway through, they brought up the idea of introducing Superman to the show and asked if I’d be interested. I said, ‘Yeah, absolutely. I’m obviously a fan.’ I believe that was on a Monday. On Friday, we got a call with the offer, so it was very quick. It was very flattering, and I wish every job came about that way.”

Hoechlin is going to be a part of at least the first couple of episodes as the character, who is the famed cousin of Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist). He has been a hero for much longer than she has, and as a result of that, he could be in some ways a mentor. However, just because he is more experienced does not necessarily mean that all of his methods are correct, and this could be one of many interesting things that the show could explore over the course of these appearances.
