‘Once Upon a Time’ season 6 and the new-look Rumpelstiltskin
After having the same haircut for a good five years, it looks like one character on “Once Upon a Time” is going to have a significant change in the style department — though it is brought on for some specific, non-show reasons.
Per a report from TVLine, Robert Carlyle is not going to be donning a wig to play Rumpelstiltskin / Mr. Gold on the sixth season after cutting his hair over the summer to do “Trainspotting 2.” Executive producer Adam Horowitz says that the makeover will be addressed in some way, though we imagine that it’ll probably just be a brief explanation before moving onto other things. We’d have a hard time believing that some magical fairy attacked him with a set of clippers overnight.
While a change like this may not be the biggest news in the world, it is something visually significant since with a show like this, change is something that happens so rarely. The series uses visual clues to differentiate between Snow White past vs. present, and also the Evil Queen versus Regina. Carlyle may actually have more in common now with Ginnifer Goodwin, since we imagine that there is still a wig out there with his name on it for the occasions in which he does flashbacks, which are often on the show.
Early on this season, Rumple will probably be doing everything that he can to wake Belle from her present slumber, but as we imagine, this is probably not going to be so easy as just casting a spell or finding someone capable of waking her up.
