‘The Night Of’ finale video: Is this really the ‘series finale’?
We tend to analyze promos for HBO’s “The Night Of” extensively prior to each episode coming on the air, but for Sunday’s finale, we find ourselves a little distracted due to two separate things.
1. There is really not anything of substance in this promo, given that almost every little movement is something that you would expect as Nasir Khan awaits his verdict and the fate of his future.
2. The words “series finale” come at you like a Mack truck.
What does the network mean with that label, especially given the recent comments from the TCA Summer Press Tour that they are considering a second season of the show? For the time being, we honestly would not read a whole lot into them. As far as the Nasir case goes, this finale will be the end of the road. This was meant to be an eight-episode story, and one with a defined beginning, middle, and end as we see what the impact of this case and the verdict has on everyone from Naz himself to his family to attorneys like John Stone. It will also be the final element of Box’s legacy as detective.
After the finale, there will be more time to discuss what a season 2 could look like and if / when the show is ordered for more. For now, all there is left to do is wait … and potentially speculate on whether or not Chandra’s kiss, which was recorded and documented, could come back to haunt both her and her client in devastating fashion.
