‘How to Get Away with Murder’ season 3 premiere: What should happen
The third season of “How to Get Away with Murder” is coming on the air feeling some more-than-lofty expectations. This is what happens when your show gets Emmy nominations and has an actress as accomplished as Viola Davis in your cast!
Yet, at the same exact time we have a feeling that the series is going to figure out a way to make things work for it, given that it has a talented team of writers behind the scenes who seem to understand that the best thing to do with this show is to not do the same thing again and again. Variety is the spice of life, and it also happens to be the way to keep people interested in a show that prides itself on shakeups and the next big twist.
Where we left off – At the end of season 2, what we ended up seeing was a situation in which the Hapstall case was finally closed, but with Wes meeting his biological father only for him to be shot seconds later, we’re not sure that there was any peace at all. Meanwhile, Frank took off in the midst of the latest drama surrounding him, and we could get a sense from here as to who he truly is when not around Annalise.
What should happen – Note that this article is mostly about the premiere, and for that episode alone, what we feel we’d like to see more so than anything else is a sense of conclusiveness regarding Wallace’s killer and where Frank went. We want to spend a little bit of time either in this episode or later on this season refocusing on what the core of the series is, and that is Annalise Keating as an educator. The show veered perhaps too much away from that in favor of the Keating Five and the latest murder. We want to see things start off a little slowly before we start to wind up the crazy-train again. If everything is simply high-octane the entire season, it loses a little bit of its power.
