‘Game of Thrones’ season 7: Should a White Walker war come sooner rather than later?

LogoFor anyone who has watched “Game of Thrones” for some extensive period of time, you’ve known what this story is eventually going to be building towards: A dark and potentially violent conclusion. The White Walkers have been long set up as the principal villains for the show, even more so than the Lannisters or anyone else who has made their presence felt over time.

Now, we’re in a point where there are only two season left to resolve this, and potentially only 13 episodes to go along with that. We’re not exactly talking about a lengthy amount of time here! We’ve seen that the White Walkers are more on the offensive, so odds are they are going to be a threat sooner rather than later.

With that being said, will they be a threat either this season, or next? Will the biggest battle to date be on its way? There is a case to be made for either option.

If you wanted to do a White Walker showdown this coming season, the logic in doing that traces simply back to the fact that it is inevitable, and there may only be so much time characters can put it off. Also, maybe there is a sentiment for trying to strike before they find themselves more on the defensive. For example, could Jon Snow be feeling a little of momentum thanks to his new title, and decide to act quickly as a result of that?

On the flip side, there’s also a lot to be said for the idea of saving the battle until we get around to an eighth and final season, mostly so that you can resolve some other issues, such as unifying Westeros in a way that it hasn’t been in some time. Let’s say, hypothetically, that Cersei’s reign at King’s Landing is fairly short-lived, and someone comes in who is a far more likable leader. Could they convince everyone to come together to take on the White Walkers and preserve the Seven Kingdoms for some time to come? For now, we’d argue that this is our main preference.
