‘Elementary’ season 5 spoilers: ‘The Mentalist’ alum checks in for 100th episode
There are certainly a few different things that we’re excited about in terms of the fifth season of “Elementary,” but one of the biggest ones is that the show is going to be getting a chance to celebrate its 100th episode fairly early into its run this season. That’s what happens when you make 24 of these a year!
With the 100th episode also tends to come big news, which is why we’re pleased to learn via TVLine that Owain Yeoman of “The Mentalist” and “Turn: Washington’s Spies” will be returning to CBS for the role of Sherlock Holmes’ former boarding-school classmate. There’s not too much more known about him just yet, but executive producer Rob Doherty teased the following to the site in terms of the overall story:
“[The story] revolves around the murder of a man who was looking for better and more efficient ways to identify what are known as Earth-killer asteroids … So there’s mystery on top of mystery as to why anyone would want to kill someone who might be able to help NASA locate and, hopefully, divert a small planetoid hurdling towards Earth.”
Who could it be: Another scientist jealous of this person’s achievements, an alien out to destroy earth, or someone else entirely? We’ll have to wait and find out! Given that this is such an enormous episode for the show, though, we do hope that proper time is spent giving us a fair tribute to everything that has happened over the years, and we’d especially love it if we saw another appearance from Mycroft of Moriarty. There has been talk about a major character returning, but talk hardly equals confirmation.
Now that we’ve reported on this, is the time right to start wondering when Simon Baker could return to American TV in a major role? He’s been awfully quiet since the end of “The Mentalist.”
