‘The Fosters’ season 4, episode 9 review: Stef and Lena’s ‘good news’; Brandon’s audition

The Fosters -

New York is the city of dreams, and on “The Fosters” Monday night, it was also the city of big decisions for Brandon.

There are many interesting questions that you should be asking in the wake of him being told to break up with Cortney via letter. First and foremost, is it cruel to do this? You could argue so, to a certain extent. After spending some time with a prospective dancer for the school, he was told that the best thing he could do for his future is prepare to spend the next four years without many distractions other than school.

If Cortney was the right person for Brandon, then he wouldn’t mind the distraction at all. This move could just be representative of the fact that she is not the one. We do feel for Cortney given that we really don’t think she did anything wrong in the situation, but that’s the beauty of the show: New love-interest characters are not necessarily horrible. They are flawed, but in turn the same goes for our regulars.

Ultimately, we’ll see what actually happened between the two since not much was shown tonight. With that said, we know that he nailed the audition.

As if this wasn’t enough of an emotional roller-coaster, the opening minutes provided a moment of near-heartbreak when Stef and Lena claimed that they were filing for divorce. However, they weren’t actually intending to split up. This would just a way to change their situation so that they would not have to sell their house. Lena also had to convince Mariana that some diary entries from some time ago about her weren’t indicative of the way that she felt now, and she loves her very much.

Finally, let’s close this review with the scariest news: Callie was caught in the act to a certain extent breaking in and stealing potential evidence, which sets the stage for the most dangerous finale yet. Her storyline this season shows almost perfectly her strengths and flaws: She’s incredibly driven, but at the same time terribly stubborn. She’s impatient, and it certainly seems like someone is waiting for the right moment to strike against her. This episode was happy at times, but certainly harrowing at others. Grade: B+.
