TV Friendships: on ‘Chicago PD’ season 4 and the future for Lindsay, Voight
Friendships can come in many different forms, and for Hank Voight and Erin Lindsay on “Chicago PD,” it’s always felt like a father / daughter relationship just as much as anything. She has helped to try and see some of the good in him, and we’ve felt at times that he views her as a responsible to stay away from his vigilante tendencies. He’s aware of her family history and her struggles, and has to be that example to lead Intelligence and, in turn, help to keep her on the straight and narrow.
Unfortunately, this is a fractured relationship heading into season 4, and the nature of their profession suggests that they’re not exactly going to have a lot of time to sit around and talk some things out. Through our TV Friendships series, we’re going to try our best to do some of the talking for them!
Where we left off – It’s pretty harrowing stuff, folks. Voight killed someone he believed to be responsible for the death of his son Justin, and in terms, proceeded to bury them. Lindsay saw him in the middle of the act, and he turned her away. She has to live with those images, and there’s a pretty good chance that both their friendship and their working relationship is damaged forever.
Where they could go from here – For these two, we figure that the biggest thing that they need is an open, honest conversation, which may be hard at first since they both each have a tendency to try to push feelings aside and give in to their vices. This is where someone like Halstead could come into play and be incredibly valuable in patching things up, and helping these two prepare more for their future.
In the end, we do think that Lindsay and Voight will be able to move forward, but it’s going to take a long time … and also a lot of trust building. Thankfully, they’ll have some opportunities to do just that.
