TV Quick Hits: ‘Into the Badlands’ season 2, ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ casting; ‘Hairspray Live!’ promo

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” casting – This show continues to be a knight in shining armor when it comes to notable guest stars! This time around, it means getting a chance to see the iconic Rhea Perlman (“Cheers”) turn up in a role that is essential to the storyline happening right now for Jake and Ray Holt as they go into witness protection as Larry and Greg.

Per Yahoo! TV, Perlman will play Estelle, a neighbor to where the two are staying in Florida. she also has some feelings for Greg, of course not knowing his true story. Here’s what executive producer Dan Goor had to say about the role:

“She has a bit of a crush on him … Unfortunately, she can’t act on it, because ‘Greg’ is still grieving the loss of his wife and her female-ness… Estelle is sort of the den mother of the walking group, and she has concerns about her family, about her daughter’s choice of mate. She makes [those concerns] very vocal to Greg.”

“Into the Badlands” casts Nick Frost – The second season of the AMC show just got THAT much more interesting! According to Deadline, the actor and frequent Simon Pegg collaborator has been cast in the upcoming second season as series-regular Bajie, a man with “questionable morals,” per the site, who somehow still ends up forming a friendship with Sunny (Daniel Wu).

First “Hairspary Live!” preview – Below, you can get a first look at the upcoming live musical airing on NBC later this year. There’s an impressive cast here including Ariana Grande, Martin Short, and Sean Hayes. Now, we just have to hope that they pull this off as well as they did “The Wiz.”
