‘Scream Queens’ season 2: Lea Michele on possible teaser misdirect
“Scream Queens” has to date done a frighteningly great job of promoting season 2; we don’t know if there is any other way that you can describe a show that effectively turns Lea Michele into Hannibal Lecter for one of their most-recent promos.
Outside of being an extremely cool preview, some internet-sleuths have likely looked into this as an element of symbolism. Given that Hannibal wore this mask during “The Silence of the Lambs” (or briefly later on during the NBC series, superior to the movies in our mind), at a time in which the character was arrested, the assumption is fairly easy to make that Hester has found herself behind bars, as well. The timeline is in the future, and presumably you could assume that at some point along the way she was finally arrested for her crimes.
Yet, Michele denies that with a brief statement she gave recently to TV Guide:
“[Chanel and company] don’t know [that she was behind the killings] because she got away with it.”
If she got away with it, that clearly means that she’s still somewhere out there, and this preview was meant more from the symbolic shock-you-with-how-creepy-this-is angle. It doesn’t matter so much whether or not this preview is legitimate or not, given the effect is still the same (getting us HYPED, and we are) and it was fairly clear from the jump that this was not new footage. Au contrare; it was created for the specific purpose of generating some excitement. At present, we feel pretty darn clear that Fox succeeded in that effort.
“Scream Queens” season 2 will premiere on the network next month. We imagine at some point along the way, there’ll be further answers regarding Hester’s whereabouts.
