‘Chicago PD’ season 4 teaser small, but mighty

September 21 is almost here, and for “Chicago PD” fans, that means an opportunity to commence a celebration. After a gut-punch of a season finale, the fourth season will begin with possibly a little bit of hope, but then also quite a bit of pain. The scars of the past cannot be forgotten, especially when one of these said scars revolves around a particularly terrifying decision that Voight made over what transpired with Justin.

The teaser promo below, courtesy of the series’ official Twitter account, chooses to not make reference of that for a variety of reasons, with the primary one being that this promo is likely designed for Olympics coverage. When you are watching a celebration of optimism and patriotism (or at least that’s what it was before all of the Ryan Lochte drama), the last thing that you want to think about is a cop murdering someone in cold blood only to later bury their body. That’s depressing. Also, casual viewers won’t understand the context.

With that, it’s likely best for the show to go for more of a campaign supporting the blue, and highlighting these characters as the heroes most of them are. While with most shows you often want to uncover new material to further explore on the air, the case isn’t quite the same here since so much of the material has gravitated towards dark, painful topics. We just the writers to be sensitive, and to focus on the people and the emotions involved if they choose to take any more of that on.
