TV Friendships: Can the ‘Pretty Little Liars’ keep their bond strong through season 7?
“Pretty Little Liars” is billed as a mystery show, a thriller, and a teen drama rolled all into one, even if technically none of the characters are really teens anymore. Above all else, though, we’d be willing to wager that this is a show about a bond between four (and now) five women and how they manage to work together to get through thick and thin. They’re mentioned in the title, they’re in every episode, and without their relationship there is effectively no show.
While we maybe in the final season, we do think there is room still to discuss friendships, where we’re at right now, and also where we could see things going between Aria, Spencer, Hanna, Emily, and Ali before the end.
Where we are at present – Hanna is going rogue in the latest mission to take down A.D., and we don’t really blame her given what her drive is. Meanwhile, Emily may reconnect with her ex Paige thanks to her being in town, Aria’s lamenting Ezra’s journey to find Nicole, Spencer may be on the verge of a huge discovery, and Ali finally is facing some trouble getting back to work. Interestingly, every character has their own separate storyline going on, but they are also all linked. Spencer and Aria, for example, have done a lot of digging into Mary Drake’s history, while Emily and Ali have had plenty of relationship rumblings over time.
Where we could see things go – Obviously, Emily and Alison seems to be the perfect endgame for the two of them, but elsewhere we’d like to see an old-fashioned team-up where all four of the main Liars are together in the same place with a common goal once more. We’d also enjoy a chance to see them do something a little bit ridiculous, whether it be an undercover mission or a minute or two where they actually start to feel as though there’s not some terrible killer breathing down their neck. If you remember back to the pilot, there were a few moments of normalcy and happiness. How do you get that back and may tribute to the original friendship at the heart of it all?
