Peyton Manning, Pete Davidson, more join Comedy Central Roast of Rob Lowe

Comedy Central -

Rob Lowe is going to be the target of the next major Comedy Central Roast, and based on the roster of people we’ve heard are taking part, it definitely seems to be a little bit of a motley crew at present.

Per a a statement from the network, Rob Riggle, Pete Davidson, Jimmy Carr, Bo Derek, the Roastmaster General in Jeff Ross, and former NFL MVP are all set to join the dais for an opportunity to relentlessly mock the former “West Wing” and “Parks and Recreation” actor when it its taped on August 27. The special will air on September 5, with a few of the clunkier jokes edited out. (The network does a good job of making this a tight, funny production.)

While we’re not sure if this is the full dais, you’ve got a nice mixture of people. Davidson killed during the Roast of Justin Bieber, so it’s nice to see him back. Ross is always a winner, Riggle is a Comedy Central favorite dating back from “The Daily Show,” and it’s nice to see Derek, who worked with Lowe on “Tommy Boy,” taking part. (David Spade, who was one of the stars of that movie, is serving as the emcee of the event.)

Manning to us is the biggest question mark, given that you’re dealing with someone who ultimately has little to no experience in stand-up comedy. Sure, he has hosted “Saturday Night Live,” but after The Situation bombed relentlessly during the Roast of Donald Trump we worry about these sort of people on the dais. (Granted, Manning’s far more accomplished, and will probably generate a ratings boost for the special.)

We’ll have more coverage of the Roast over time, so stay tuned! Meanwhile, be sure to sign up over at the link here to secure some other TV news on all we cover, sent right over to you via our official CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: Comedy Central.)
