‘The Good Wife’ spin-off: Christine Baranski hints Julianna Margulies could still appear
Even though it may still be many months until the eventual spin-off for “The Good Wife” premieres on CBS All Access, there is still no precise word on what this show will look like, the precise premiere date, or even the full cast of characters. All we know for certain is that Cush Jumbo and Christine Baranski are reprising their roles from the flagship series, and that there will be a small time jump in between this and the end of the flagship.
Also, apparently the door is very much open still for more Julianna Margulies as Alicia, even if this is not fully her story anymore. In speaking on the subject to The Hollywood Reporter, Baranski had the following message to pass along:
“I think there are stories to be told like what happens after that and, indeed, Julianna might very well appear as Alicia Florrick in the courtroom with Diane. We don’t know, but it’s all an open possibility, which I think is exciting. What’s exciting is we already have an audience that knows and loves the show, and knows and loves the characters so they’re invested and they know the style of the writing and they love it. Almost everyone would comment on how great the writing was so why not see where that will take us? Why not hold onto something that’s really good and not try and repeat, but do variations on a theme?”
We’d be silly to not want Margulies to turn up eventually, but we think what’ll really sink or swim this show are the quality of the cases. So long as the writers get these right and this continues to establish itself as one of the sharpest and smartest legal dramas out there, who cares if this is on CBS, CBS All Access, or on public access in the middle of the night? We’ll still want to watch.
