‘Rizzoli & Isles’ season 7, episode 10 review: Maura and the big husband reveal
Who knew that Maura Isles was one to keep a secret? There are so many things that we have come to know about her over the course of “Rizzoli & Isles” and its run on TNT, but this is one that the show managed to somehow keep under wraps: She has a husband, someone she was technically not divorced from … she just wasn’t with him.
The reason much of this came out over the course of Monday night’s new episode was due to his connection to a new murder case, and Maura did her best to offer up why she had never talked about him previously: It just didn’t matter. Like so many other relationships, this just existed in her past and wasn’t much of a factor in her present. Also, he wasn’t a part of her life anymore.
The moment that this said ex’s family realized that she was a part of the investigation, though, things started to take an interesting turn. After all, they felt as though this was an act of revenge against him, especially given that his medical condition could have left him incapacitated and unable to commit such a crime. As for his mother … well, she’s more than capable of picking up a gun and pointing it squarely into Maura’s face, even if it wasn’t quite what it seemed. Classic misdirect.
The storyline for Angela and others this week was moderately entertaining, but overall we were so distracted through much of it because we wanted to get back to the Maura stuff. This was just captivating, meaty stuff, and Sasha Alexander did a great job in both the acting and directing department over the course of this. This especially came near the end of the hour when Maura did find herself in some serious danger. The finer details of the case, other than this moment and Maura’s mother-in-law pointing that gun, really weren’t that important. We just found the end of the episode being the true defining moment of the hour when it comes to fun: She signed the papers! Now, she can move forward to her future.
In general, that’s something all characters are looking at as we approach the end of the series. Episode Grade: B+.
