Is ‘Devious Maids’ new tonight? The latest on season 5 renewal hopes

The past few weeks have certainly been a whirlwind for all fans of “Devious Maids” on Lifetime, mostly in that we saw the season wind down, saw some romantic surprises, and of course the reveal of Peri’s killer in the process. There was even a pregnancy!

With all of that being said, the producers still decided to make an interesting move, jumping the story forward a good year before opting to give us a good cliffhanger via a pregnancy. We’ve certainly seen a wide array of twists and turns as of late, but unfortunately, we won’t seen any more for a while — if ever. The show still has not been renewed for a season 5, even if we are cautiously optimistic. While the ratings did not exactly increase in the finale (other than a slight uptick in total viewers), they also did not fall. It stayed the course relatively, and that is important for the sake of showing consistency. When you suffer a year-to-year drop in live+same day ratings quite like what this show did, you have to look towards whatever signs you possibly can for hope.

One thing we do know is that the folks behind the scenes are certainly looking to tell more story. Speaking per Entertainment Weekly prior to the finale, showrunner Brian Tanen had the following message to pass along:

“We have tried really hard to end stories in surprising and interesting places, so there are a number of really fun and unexpected cliffhangers and we really hope that the audience loves them and is intrigued and wants a season 5.”

So continue to hold out hope, and remember that DVR viewings do count in the renewal effort … even if watching live always is best.
