ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 6 spoilers: You won’t wait long for election results…
Who is going to be the next President of the United States on “Scandal“? We know that this is the big cliffhanger at the moment with the series, and rather than make you endure a lengthy general election process when the show returns in the new year, executive producer Shonda Rhimes will be working to give you some answers fast.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Rhimes made it clear precisely how quickly she was planning to have the election stuff over and done with on the show:
“We are basically going to start our season on election night. Yes, it is going to play into our season, but we’re not going to spend our time playing an election.”
Is this the right move for the show to make? Giving the timing of it all, probably. Had this been a 22-episode season before Kerry Washington announced her pregnancy, we probably would have said that this was a mistake to go in this particular route. After all, you would have had episodes in the fall then, and an election story to compliment what is going on in the real world feels reasonably smart.
However, with the show premiering when it is, we imagine that the vast majority of viewers are going to be feeling rather sick of all things related to the election by the time in which the show returns. Heck, we’re sure many people are now. We’ve enjoyed the election portion of “Scandal,” but we recognize that there are probably many out there who are ready, willing, and eager to move on to some other subjects of conversation at this point.
