‘Gotham’ season 3 spoilers: Show exec on Poison Ivy transformation

Ivy -One of the big mysteries moving into season 3 of “Gotham” revolves around the Ivy Pepper character, mostly in how we are going to see her age up significantly overnight. This change is represented by Maggie Geha replacing Claire Foley on the show, which will happen very early on in the season.

So how will this happen? We’ve heard a vague explanation before about it being the work of someone from Indian Hill, but now we’ve heard some additional perspective from executive producer John Stephens on the subject that has us all the more excited. Speaking in a new interview with IGN, he explained that this former patient has a specific power that makes the transformation happen:

“The idea of Poison Ivy came along because one of the escapees from Indian Hill has the power when he touches you he takes away years of your life, he ages you immediately … So he touches Ivy early on but he didn’t hold onto her for very long so he does a little bit of aging [to her]. So for us we really wanted to play with the idea of transformation. Version one of the character, version two. And so much of Ivy of the canon that we wanted to play, we had to make her a little older.”

In a way, you can argue that this was a convenient way to come up with introducing the version of Ivy to the show that the producers wanted to put out there; yet, we’ll give it the benefit of the doubt to see what happens, given there wasn’t really too much going on with the younger version of Ivy at the time in which she was on the show in season 2. In general, one of “Gotham’s” bigger struggles has been what to do with the younger characters, and we say that as someone who loved season 2 and saw it as a substantial improvement on what came beforehand.
