TV Friendships: What ‘Game of Thrones’ season 7 can do with Tyrion, Daenerys

Finale -Friendship is not necessarily something that is a key component to “Game of Thrones” at times. Instead, you could argue that survival is more important than anything given the trail of bodies this show tends to leave behind from one episode to the next.

However, friendships are essential to making survival happen at times, especially when you are in a position where there is a constant stream of people coming for your head. We’d argue that Daenerys is certainly in that position at present given her rally for the Iron Throne, and while he may not be perfect, Tyrion’s a great person to have at her side approaching Westeros. How will all of this play out for the two? Let’s look further at that in the latest edition of our month-long TV Friendships article series.

Where they left off – After Tyrion opted to allow some slave-owners to continue their practices for many years, the slavers in turn attempted an attack upon Meereen with an army of ships. Luckily, the Khaleesi returned to the city with her latest Dothraki horde, and they were able to throttle the army. Not only that, but she and Tyrion now have the fleet, and are using it in order to sail across the ocean to the Seven Kingdoms in hopes of finally being able to do what Daenerys has wanted ever since the first season.

Where they could go from here – We obviously expect more playful banter and also the occasional trading of insults. These have been touchstones for these two from the moment that they met. We also anticipate that their understanding of each other and what it means to rule will become critical in the attempted conquest. For example, Tyrion understands that sometimes, you need to make arrangements like marriage to establish further political ties, and that sometimes a loss of life is necessary in order to push things forward. We do want to see some conflict between the two over strategy, but more than anything we think it’d be rather fun watching Tyrion give his new Queen some lessons in what it takes to succeed in Westeros, and how to take down her rivals … including of course Cersei.
